Planted Foods wins Top 100 Swiss Startup Award 2021 – second place for cutiss.swiss
On 8 September, Venturelab held the Top 100 Startup Award for the first time in its new location, its very own Startup Space in Schlieren. It was a relaxed event in warm late summer weather, which allowed guests to network outside until late in the evening.
The award ceremony itself took place in two halls connected by video link and complemented by a holographic transmission of certain individuals – also an innovation developed by Imverse who came in place 63.
In his welcome address, co-founder and managing partner Jordi Montserrat pointed out that Venturelab also uses the .swiss domain. Later, in an interview, he explained why .swiss is the ideal internet extension for Swiss startups: YouTube – dot.swiss and TOP 100 Swiss Startup.
The Top 100 Startup Award can once again present some impressive figures. After 11 years, it can boast:
- funding for 438 outstanding startups
- over 11,100 jobs created
- CHF 6,100,000,000 in venture capital brokered through the network
- 56 exits: startups that have been bought out by larger companies or reached a normal level of business activity
- 3 IPOs (On running shoes is a further recent addition).
This richness is also reflected in the 3 rankings:
Scale-ups are young, growth-stage businesses that can no longer be considered in the Top 100 ranking. Outstanding startups are also chosen in a public vote by participants with a LinkedIn profile.
At the pinnacle of the TOP 100 Swiss Startup Ranking 2021 is ‘Planted Foods AG’, which develops and sells plant-based meat substitutes. One of the core ideas is a massive reduction in CO2 emissions for our food.
The winner of last year’s anniversary award event, www.cutiss.swiss is making good progress and is now in second place this year, while 9TLabs is in third place.
The dot.swiss brand has been in a partnership with Venturelab since 2019 for the TOP 100 Swiss Startup Award – more under www.dot.swiss/startup.
