To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the renowned Best of Swiss Web Awards, dot.swiss will present an award for the best website with a .swiss domain. The winner will receive an illustrious, newly made red buoy award as well as nationwide recognition. Submissions will be accepted starting on 20 November 2019. We talked to Dr Heinrich Meyer about why the award has partnered with dot.swiss and what website operators should know before they submit their entries.

Mr Meyer, how did it come about that Best of Swiss Web decided to partner with dot.swiss?
Best of Swiss Web is celebrating its 20th anniversary next year. dot.swiss is the perfect partner because our Swiss roots and Swiss values such as quality and innovation are so important to us both.
If I’m the owner of a website with a .swiss domain, why should I submit my site for BoSW?
The winner of the Best of Swiss Web Award will receive proof in black and white, and possibly in the form of a coveted red buoy, from an independent organisation that the project they have submitted is of exceptional quality. That is wonderful recognition for the website owner and for the team who designed and implemented the website.
Why did Best of Swiss Web choose a .swiss domain?
We have been showcasing online projects that have been created by or for Swiss companies since 2001. The .swiss address represents how important Switzerland is to us.
How much will it cost for me to enter my .swiss website?
It costs CHF 600 plus VAT to enter your website for the ‘Best of dot.swiss’ special award. Entrants who submit their websites for the regular categories can also enter to win the special award at no additional cost.
What new opportunities await me if I win the BoSW Award?
It’s just like in a sporting match: is there anything better than entering a competition and proving that you deserve to win? That’s also why we publish the ‘Best of’ list every year that shows who has been the most successful over the last five, 10 or 20 years. We hear time and again from web service providers how important this ranking has become for their clients.
Are there any specific industries or products that are particularly suited to enter the BoSW award?
The most exciting entrants are products, companies and industries that are affected by digitalisation. Today that encompasses pretty much every product and industry.
What does the awards ceremony mean for you, personally? What emotions does it evoke for you?
I’m always touched when I see the blood, sweat and tears the individual teams put into their work. Once someone holds the buoy in their hands, there’s no holding them back and everyone is just so proud of the work they’ve done.
What are you looking forward to most in terms of the 20-year anniversary?
I prefer to focus on the future rather than the past. But it is truly rewarding to take this opportunity to take a look back together with the jury and the BoSW team and to remind ourselves how we’ve come this far.
