“Car of the Year 2021”: gims.swiss is ready for the virtual jubilee event

Which car will be successor to last year’s winner, the Peugeot 208? Next Monday we will find out, when the Car of the Year 2021 is announced. You can tune in live to the award ceremony on www.gims.swiss from 3pm.

All is quiet at the Palexpo Arena. The last week of February normally sees everyone eagerly preparing for the Geneva International Motor Show, but now the venue is silent for the second year running. As in 2020, the prestigious event has been cancelled this year because of the coronavirus.

But that doesn’t mean that car fans won’t get their money’s worth this year. The Car of the Year awards ceremony will be held on Monday, 1 March. This year’s event marks a jubilee: for the tenth time since 2012, the GIMS team and the Car of the Year jury are organising the ceremony for one of the most coveted awards in the automobile industry.

Wanted: the most interesting car

Since 1964, the trophy has been awarded to the most interesting new car to come out each year. From a shortlist of seven models, a 59-member jury of automobile journalists from 22 countries will select the successor to the Peugeot 208, which won the award in 2020. Each member of the jury must have driven each of the cars themselves.

The shortlist for Car of the Year 2021 is:

  • Citroën C4
  • Cupra Formentor
  • Fiat 500
  • Land Rover Defender
  • Škoda Octavia
  • Toyota Yaris
  • Volkswagen ID.3

Watch the Car of the Year 2021 award ceremony live on Monday, 1 March 2021, from 3pm on www.gims.swiss.
